Our oldest son became angry over a petty exchange of words with one of his sisters. He had been checking in with friends via text and instagram (from my phone – his only access) and I asked him to put the phone at the charging station and take care of himself.

He responded with angry yelling and door slamming.

I replied with the following texted to three friends and a post to his instagram.

I don’t mind that he excused himself from our home to chill out. He has always been good about that, even as a toddler. And I encourage self-government and therefore was not interfering nor correcting in the way he addressed his sister. I do mind destruction of another’s property. That’s where he messed up.
