Halloween is over. Whew. Not a fan of Halloween. For a multitude of reasons. None of them “religious” for the record. No less, I greet the day with reserved excitement which is even expressed only for the benefit of my totally stoked kids.

Despite not knowing where we were going to trick-or-treat at 4p, we did end up with a couple of other families and a very gracious grandmother hostess. It was far more fun than I had expected my day to be. I am grateful.

It does not undo the fact that telling my children it’s OK to go up to doors and expect free candy “just because” makes me a bit crazy. Er. Crazy-er. But it is what it is and they have fun and I am confident they will not grow up believing they should get the goods “just because.”
